Friends and colleagues:

I’m pleased to announce that after a 2 year break I’m getting back into the classroom at Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM.

As many of you know, I began teaching at Montana State University in 2013. What started out as a small, part-time adjunct position grew to a bigger commitment teaching the Senior Capstone Course alongside my mentor and colleague, Dr. Bill Brown. During the pandemic, I took a short break from teaching at Montana State to complete my book, How To Win Client Business.

A one semester sabbatical turned into two as the pandemic lingered on, and I began traveling with my small tow-behind camper. I spent the next few months visiting the remote corners of Montana, and as winter threatened I drifted south to UT, NV, CA, AZ and NM.

Fast forward to 2022. I discovered a small town during my travels that seemed perfect for a guy who had grown weary of Montana’s long winters and longing to get back into a university classroom. In February of this past year, I moved to Silver City, NM and will begin teaching at Western New Mexico University next week for the Spring 2023 semester.

Most folks have never heard of Silver City, and fewer still have ever visited. It’s not unlike Bozeman in some ways – at least as it was in the 1980s – minus the cold winters. The town sits at 6000 feet in the foothills of the Gila National Forest and has many of the outdoor amenities that Montana is blessed with. It’s population is roughly 10,000 – which hasn’t significantly changed in 30 years.

Silver City is located about an hour north of I-10 roughly halfway between Tucson, AZ and El Paso, TX. Western New Mexico University – a small, public university with about 4,000 students – is located in the heart of town. If you’re ever passing through the SW corner of New Mexico, please take a short detour off the interstate and let me show you our local trails and watering holes. And, for those interested, a short tour of our local university – home of the Mustangs.

I’m grateful to all of you for your friendship and support over the years. Wishing you all a very successful and healthy 2023!

Doug
